A recent Illinois Chamber of Commerce paid holiday survey shows that 95 percent of the businesses in the state plan to be closed for most major holidays in 2016.
The chamber offers the survey annually and releases the results near the end of each year. Hundreds of responses from businesses are compiled for this project and the results are released with a detailed breakdown for sectors such as construction, manufacturing, retail and finance.
The survey serves as a key tool for businesses statewide to determine paid employee time off for each upcoming holiday. Holidays listed in the survey include Christmas, New Year's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and President's Day. Other dates listed in the survey include Election Day and employee birthdays.
The survey also tallies the average number of paid holidays and personal days offered to employees. On average, businesses plan to offer 8.8 paid holidays and 2.9 paid personal days per employee in 2016.
