Third party logistics provider Saddle Creek Logistics Services announced last week that the company has commenced building a new distribution center in Chicago.
The facility is expected to open in early 2016 and is part of Saddle Creek's strategy for nationwide expansion. It will replace a DC already in operation in the Chicago area and will be one of 37 facilities in Saddle Creek's nationwide network.
The 1.1-million-square-foot facility will be located in the CenterPoint Intermodal Center – the nation's largest inland port and a designated Foreign Trade Zone. It will utilize 132 docks doors as well as a secured yard.
"This new DC will accommodate organic growth with our current customers and also allow us to serve new customers in Chicagoland," Rob Pericht, senior vice president of warehouse operations at Saddle Creek, said. "We look forward to providing flexible logistics solutions that meet their needs efficiently and cost-effectively."
