The West Side of the City of Aurora recently announced that a new restaurant, The Spartan Ale House, will be moving into the local area.
The new restaurant is coming to the city thanks to a revenue-sharing initiative, which serves to split the expense of improvements to infrastructure and shares the tax revenue with both the restaurant owners and the city.
"We continue to provide substantive opportunities for increased economic development in Aurora. Business owners are encouraged by the efforts that the City of Aurora is making," Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner said. "There are many more exciting projects on the horizon that will strengthen the overall quality of life in Aurora."
The Spartan Ale House will be located in the Old Colonial Pharmacy building set on Prairie Street, close to Prisco’s Fine Foods. The owner is Michael Poulakidas of JTE Family Properties. He says that the new neighborhood pub and eatery will align with the local residents’ wishes for the neighborhood as a whole.
"As part of the University Neighbors plan that we just concluded recently, one of the highlights was to look at the redevelopment of the Prairie Street corridor," Chief Development Officer Bill Wiet said. "This is a result of that process."
JTE Family Properties, which is based in Aurora as a family-owned venture, owns O’Malley’s Pub and Grill, located on the East Side of the city. The new addition will need significant improvements before the restaurant can officially open. Construction crews will begin to work on Hartford Avenue and Prairie Street, with upgrades amounting to a total of $578,000 for both the streets and the building.
