Abhay Ghiara, a professor at Illinois-based DeVry University, recently was chosen as one of 49 members to sit on the Fulbright Commission's Peer Review Committee in New Delhi, India.
Ghiara, a former Fulbright Scholar himself, teachers at the Fremont, California branch of the university.
“I am honored to be a part of a prestigious program with a global impact,” Ghiara said.
As a member of the committee, Ghiara will have a part in the review of Fulbright Grant applications, helping to choose the recipients of the 8,000 grants awarded annually to scholars, teachers, students, artists, professionals and scientists.
“After a rewarding experience as a Fulbright Scholar, I look forward to assisting in the peer review process," Ghiara said.
Peer reviewers are vetted by The Council for International Exchange of Scholars staff before they are sent to the American Council of Learned Societies, the Social Science Research Council or the National Academy of Sciences for approval.
