A mentorship program has been launched by Emily Erickson, board member and chair of the Young Professionals Network (YPN) of the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce.
“As the chair of YPN I have wanted to start a mentorship program so we could grow as community and current business leaders could help us grow,” Erickson, an account executive with Corporate Concepts Inc., said.
The program has been dubbed The Legacy Circle.
Erickson acknowledged the need for a program when she realized that Naperville is a unique place to live and work due to its synergy between the business community, non-profit presence, and volunteer and civic spirit of the people who live and work there.
“Why not take the top 11 percent of members, half over 40 and half under 40, and get them in a room of eight to 12 trusting people to discuss the business climate, personal issues and community issues and encourage peer accountability, education, brainstorming to help collaboratively advance this legacy?” Erickson said.
The chamber's board of directors backed the idea and believed that Erickson, along with a committee, could bring this to fruition, a chamber news release said.
The Legacy Circle will meet quarterly. Breakout "mastermind groups" will meet monthly.
"Currently, we look to our younger members as the future of the chamber," chamber President Nicki Anderson said. "This is one step toward building opportunities for the future leaders with our current leaders in an effort to keep our community thriving."
