Hoffer Plastics Corp. of South Elgin, Illinois was the recipient of the 2015 Illinois Governor’s Sustainability Award.
The award was presented October 27 at an awards ceremony and technical symposium at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers in Chicago.
The Illinois Governor's Sustainability Award has, since 1987, recognized private and public Illinois companies that have put in place exemplary sustainable techniques or technologies.
“We’re honored to receive the 2015 Illinois Governor’s Sustainability Award,” Gretchen Hoffer Farb, VP of value creation at Hoffer, said. “Environmental sustainability was instilled as a core value in our company that started 60 years ago with our founder, my grandfather, Robert Hoffer."
Hoffer's sustainability efforts have included a facility-wide 100 percent recycling program launched in 2007; the 2012 replacement of facility lighting with high efficiency fluorescent lighting; and the 2014 implementation of a high cycle water treatment program.
“The submission for this award could not have been completed without the assistance of Tom Gawne and Amy Brenner of Elemental Solutions, LLC," Charlotte Hoffer Canning, Hoffer's vice president of brand and culture, said. "They have been a true partner in our sustainability efforts."
