It's the holiday shopping season, and retailers at Northbrook Court shopping mall in Northbrook, Illinois, have many of this year's trendiest gifts.
Northbrook Court Senior Manager Caryn Torres said personalized gifts from shops like Tiffany's or Silver Corner are always popular, as are Pandora charms and jewelry. Starbucks offers a "You are Here" collection of mugs that bear the names of cities around the world.
“Now we have 'athleisure,' where fitness meets fashion,” Torres said, explaining this fitness clothing is marketed as casual wear that includes pants made from stretchy, breathable fabrics.
The active person on a gift list may also like an activity tracker such as a Fitbit, Torres said. She also suggested "experience" or charity gifts.
"A lot of people find meaning in giving something that they might enjoy together,” Torres said. She suggested cooking classes, movie gift cards or golf lessons.
As they have been for many years, high-tech gifts are also still popular.
“A lot of technology accessories that make people’s lives easier or enhance what they enjoy make great gifts,” Torres said.
Many kids and teens have smartphones, and accessories for those are trendy gifts that are very affordable.
"This year 4K, or Ultra High Definition, has exploded in the latest technology products,” Mike Egan of Northbrook's Best Buy said. “Hollywood, the sports industry and cable TV are now shooting in 4K, so now there are more devices than ever that can take advantage of this new technology.”
