Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City was named recently to the Joint Commission's list of 2014 Top Performers on Key Quality Measures.
"We understand what matters most to patients at Gateway Regional is the quality and safety of the care they receive," Gateway Regional CEO Ed Cunningham said. "That is why we have made it a top priority to improve positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes. We are proud to be named a top performer, as it recognizes the knowledge, teamwork and dedication of our entire hospital staff.”
The Joint Commission is a Chicago-based nonprofit organization that accredits more than 20,000 health care organizations and initiatives throughout the nation.
Gateway Regional Medical Center has been in operation for more than 100 years and employs more than 150 physicians. The hospital has 343 beds and a behavioral health unit. It also operates a bone and joint center. Its services include robotic surgery, emergency services, geriatrics and a women and newborns department.
This marks Gateway Regional's fifth appearance in a row on the list - the only hospital in Illinois to have that distinction.
“Delivering the right treatment in the right way at the right time is a cornerstone of high-quality health care," Joint Commission President and CEO Mark Chassin said. "I commend the efforts of Gateway Regional Medical Center for their excellent performance on the use of evidence-based interventions.”
