Ralph Pechanio, a longtime Elmhurst-area banker, will be inducted into the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ECCI) Civic Hall of Fame next month.
"Ralph Pechanio is a touchstone through which multiple generations of businesspeople, civic leaders and community volunteers have connected dating back to the 1970s,” ECCI President and CEO John Quigley said.
Pechanio, who will become the 24th Hall of Fame inductee, has been a member of ECCI for 45 years and served three terms on the organization's board.
Pechanio has worked at Elmhurst Federal Savings Bank as controller, vice president, treasurer and chief financial officer and as a savings and loan examiner at the State of Illinois' Department of Financial Institutions.
Pechanio retired from banking in 1993, but remained active with the Elmhurst Veterans Memorial Commission and the chamber. He is also a member of the Elmhurst Kiwanis, Elmhurst Jaycees and Elmhurst American Legion THB Post 187.
"Ralph is the epitome of what it means to be a selfless volunteer,” Quigley said.
Pechanio and his wife Polly still reside in Elmhurst.
The chamber's Civic Hall of Fame was Pechanio's brainchild and began in 1992.
Pechanio will be inducted into the Civic Hall of Fame at the ECCI's 97th annual Awards Gala and Talent Showcase on Jan. 29 at the Clarion Inn's Waterford Banquet and Conference Center.
