The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce swore in its 2016 board chair, Elena Kezelis of Memorial Medical Center Foundation, at the chamber's annual meeting last week.
At the meeting, the chamber also highlighted last year's achievements, which included approval of its application to designate Sangamon County an ACT Work Ready Community; coordination of a group of local volunteers who went to Washington, D.C. to continue efforts for the Springfield Rail Improvements Project and the Cyber Mission for the 183rd at the Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport; advocacy efforts for changes to overtime rules; and educational sessions on disaster preparedness for business sustainability.
Also cited was the chamber's creation of the Leadership Roundtables program, and its work through the Business Retention and Expansion program.
The chamber was also instrumental in bringing state lawmakers to Sangamon County to discuss expansion obstacles for Standard Aero, one of the area's largest employers. Chamber representatives also helped local company Henry Technologies connect with sources for tax incentives.
