Illinois Valley Regional Airport in Peru is home to OSF Aviation's new hangar and base, part of the company's 24-hour OSF Life Flight service.
The new hangar features 5,000 feet of hangar space, along with 2,000 square feet of space to house offices and crew quarters. The helicopter in the hangar is at the ready 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with a pilot and two medical crew members available.
OSF Life Flight, which began operations in early 2013, now runs 65-70 patient flights per month.
“This new facility represents our long term commitment to improve access to the highest levels of care for critically ill or injured patients in the Illinois Valley region,” OSF Saint Francis Inc. Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Jeff White said. “We are grateful for the support from the city of Peru, the Illinois Valley Regional Airport and the communities we serve as we are committed to achieving the best outcomes for patients in distress as the time to get them to specialized care is minimized with this new facility.”
Until moving into its own hangar, OSF Life Flight Peru shared a hangar with private aircraft owners. OSF staff stayed in a trailer on the premises.
OSF Life Flight also has bases in Rockford and Peoria.
