A recent $850,000 donation from Levi, Ray & Shoup Inc. will allow Springfield's Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) to expand its aviation maintenance program.
The donation from the Springfield-based IT solutions company will go toward building new, larger classrooms, a computer lab and offices next to the existing facility at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport in Springfield. The facility’s expansion will replace the existing modular classroom and office unit currently inside the hangar, which consumes large amounts of shop floor space. The shop floor space, once cleared, will be converted to new areas for hands-on practical exercises and instruction.
The new facility will be named the Levi, Ray and Shoup Inc. Aviation Center at Lincoln Land Community College.
The Springfield Airport Authority had been working with LLCC and other entities for many years to secure funding to provide modern on-site classrooms for the aviation program.
Expanding the LLCC aviation program will help the college fill the demand for skilled technicians, which is expected to grow following a recent announcement by StandardAero, a large maintenance, repair and overhaul facility based in Springfield, that it intends to increase its work volume to support growing demand for its services.
