The Heart of Illinois Human Resources Council (HIHRC) based in Peoria has won the 2015 Pinnacle Award, the highest honor offered by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) to state councils and chapters for notable contributions to the human resources profession.
The Pinnacle Award honors programs that enhance the creation of effective HR management programs. Heart of Illinois HR Council is one of 12 organizations from nine states to win the award.
"We are excited to accept this award from SHRM," Cathy Plouzek, director of human resources at Alliance Benefit Group and board member of HIHRC. said. "This is our second Pinnacle Award in four years and our goal was to empower area business leaders and HR professionals with the tools, strategies and peer resources to adopt a collaborative and strategic approach to veteran employment."
The HIHRC collaborated with the Heartland Division Salvation Army Veteran Outreach Center to host "Arming Business Leaders and HR Professionals," a program to help businesses come up with strategies to hire veterans and to raise awareness of veteran homelessness.
Winning programs each received a $1,000 prize, given by Paychex Inc., the sponsor of the awards event.
"This year's Pinnacle Award winners have demonstrated exceptional leadership through their innovative programs," SHRM President and CEO Henry "Hank" Jackson said. "Their projects also offer practical solutions to business challenges facing companies today such as military veterans' transitions to the civilian workforce."
