Lewis University president receives Joliet chamber's Excellence in Education Award

Brother James Gaffney, president of Lewis University in Romeoville, received the inaugural Excellence in Education Award from the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce & Industry at the chamber's recent Carnival gala.

Brother James Gaffney, president of Lewis University in Romeoville, received the inaugural Excellence in Education Award from the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce & Industry at the chamber's recent Carnival gala.

Gaffney has led the university during a period of significant growth, all while the institution has received national recognition for its academic quality.

Gaffney has received many honors during his four decades dedicated to education, including the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice medallion from the Vatican, Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center Founder’s Award and the Silver Cross Hospital Sangmeister Medal of Excellence.

“This community is fortunate to have an individual like Brother James," Chamber President Mary Jaworski said. "His legacy will far outlast all of us as his impact in this region has been immeasurable. We have closely admired his vision and the image that he has built at Lewis University. There is no better individual to honor with this inaugural award.”
