Peoria-based OSF HealthCare, Pekin Hospital and UnityPoint - Peoria are teaming up to offer two free public presentations about the importance of advance care planning.
“Advance care planning is important because it allows individuals to express their wishes for health care now, in case there comes a time when that individual can no longer express their wishes,” Karen Renken, advance care planning coordinator for OSF HealthCare, said. “When those wishes are discussed and recorded, families and medical providers can rest assured those wishes are being followed.”
“The ABCs of Advance Care Planning,” is being offered in honor of National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD). NHDD aims to inspire, educate and empower both the public and healthcare providers about the importance of planning care in advance. This year's theme is "It Always Seems Too Early, Until It’s Too Late."
Two session choices are available. The first will be held at 1 p.m. April 12 at the Park Court Conference Center at Pekin Hospital. The second will be held at 5 p.m. April 21 at Hult Center for Healthy Living, 5215 N. Knoxville Ave. in Peoria.
Advanced registration is recommended but not required.
