The Q5 Workforce and Education Council of Sangamon County was recently recognized as one of eight in the nation to become a Certified Work Ready Community (CWRC), with certification provided by ACT, which is known for its college entrance exams.
Counties participating in the CWRC program aim to have unemployed and current workers take a series of tests to obtain a National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). The certificate shows an individual has skills such as problem solving, critical thinking and mathematical reasoning. Individuals receive certification as bronze, silver, gold or platinum. The certificate is valid anywhere in the United States.
Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield will offer online assessments that test knowledge in applied math, reading and locating information.
The certification will help businesses hire the most qualified individuals for opportunities within their organization, leading to lower turnover rates.
Q5 is an economic development partnership led by the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce.
