Peoria-based OSF HealthCare is participating in the Veterans Affairs (VA) Choice Provider Program, which means veterans living in communities served by OSF HealthCare may be eligible visit local health care providers without going to a Veterans Health Administration facility.
Under the previous system, veterans in communities served by OSF HealthCare sometimes had to travel outside the area to receive certain types of care, even if a local OSF HealthCare facility offered the required care.
“OSF HealthCare is honored to collaborate with the Veterans Health Administration to ensure veterans receive timely and convenient access to the high quality medical care they need,” Melody Berry, vice president of accountable care services at OSF HealthCare, said. “Whether a veteran has a heart problem, diabetes or one of many other medical conditions, we are happy to be in a position to help.”
This program does not affect existing VA health care or other VA benefits. Veterans must work with the VA to access VA Choice Provider services.
