President of Elgin PR firm honored by Illinois Women's Press Association


Pat Szpekowski, president of PR Strategies & Communications in Elgin, won several honors in the Illinois Woman’s Press Association (IWPA) 2016 communications contest.

Szpekowski won first place in the PR materials category for a brochure created for Aquatic Therapy and Wellness in Algonquin. The judge noted the use of color, graphics, photos and understandable copy as winning factors.

Szpekowski received two third-place honors for writing. The first recognized Szpekowski’s “Season of Giving” story which was published in Air Chicago Magazine, the quarterly publication of the Chicago Department of Aviation. The other honor was in the personality category for a story on George and Jo Ann Lazansky, members of Saint Margaret Mary Church in Algonquin, which was published in The Observer, the weekly newspaper of the Catholic Diocese of Rockford.

She also received honorable mentions for two religious category stories published in The Observer.

“I feel very privileged to have received these awards from the Illinois Woman’s Press Association in my dual role as a freelance writer and public relations professional, ” Szpekowski said.
