Leaders from the Canadian Foundation for Economic Education (CFEE) have partnered with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and BMO Harris Bank to host an event for children during Talk With Our Kids About Money Day (TWOKAM).
TWOKAM is part of Money Smart Week, an educational program. This student Money Fair competition includes school curricula for families and teachers as they have conversations with children about money and their personal finances.
"Talk With Our Kids About Money Day program enables educators and parents to set a strong financial foundation for youth to embark on a healthy financial path," Chris Begy, CEO of BMO Financial Corporation, said. "BMO Harris Bank's partnership with CFEE will help close the gap among our youth centered on money topics."
Many of the schools in Wisconsin and Illinois use the opportunity to discuss financial issues with their students. Families have a “Home Program” and seventh grade students and teachers have a “school program” to participate in the event.
"Preparing our kids for their financial futures is a shared responsibility involving parents at home and teachers in our schools," Gary Rabbior, president of CFEE, said. "TWOKAM and the Money Fair programs provide an excellent opportunity for such collaboration to make a real difference in the knowledge and skills our children will need in order to make future financial decisions with confidence and competence."
