Amazon.com plans to build a new fulfillment center in Romeoville to handle shipments of large items.
The new facility will be more than 750,000 square feet. Employees there will pick, pack and ship items such as large TVs, kayaks and other sporting gear.
“We are excited to add this new fulfillment center in Romeoville,” Akash Chauhan, vice president of Amazon’s North America operations, said. “Expanding our footprint in Illinois brings hundreds and hundreds of full-time jobs with competitive pay and great benefits starting on day one to the state.”
“We are pleased to welcome Amazon to Romeoville. We have very few vacancies, so we were fortunate that they found an existing building that met their needs,” Mayor John Noak said. “Amazon continues to have a major impact on our regional economy. We look forward to this partnership, as e-commerce is an important sector in our future growth.”
Full-time employees at Amazon will receive competitive hourly wages and a comprehensive benefits package that includes healthcare, a 401(k) plan and company stock awards, as well as maternity and parental leave benefits.
Amazon also offers employees programs such as Career Choice that pre-pays 95 percent of employee tuition for courses related to in-demand fields, even if the skills are not relevant to a career at Amazon.
Amazon is already hiring for associate roles at the Romeoville fulfillment center. For more information, visit www.amazon.com/mdwjobs.
