The John Marshall Law School in Chicago -- the only Illinois law school to offer spring enrollment for new students -- reminds potential incoming students that the deadline to apply for the spring semester is Nov. 15.
"At John Marshall, we offer incoming students the flexibility of enrolling in January," William Powers, associate dean for admission and student affairs, said. "January enrollment has significant advantages. First, you can get a jump on your legal education without having to wait until August. Also, enrolling in January enables students to gain legal experience over three summers instead of two."
A spring starting time offers advantages for some students.
"Classes are smaller, and students can take the bar in February and enter the job market months ahead of the students who began in August," Powers said. "It really is a great option."
The January enrollment date -- offered at John Marshall for decades -- is becoming more popular. Students who are admitted for the fall semester also have the option to defer their start date to January if it is more convenient.
The upcoming class will have orientation beginning Jan. 17. Coursework begins Jan. 23.
