Hilco Global has launched Hilco IP Merchant Banking, a new business unit focused on intellectual property-based financial services.

The new business unit will also offer technical advisory services and IP monetization solutions, and it will invest in IP-driven transactions.

"Hilco IP Merchant Banking adds a unique and critical capability to our current suite of valuation, monetization and advisory solutions," Chairnan and CEO Jeffrey Hecktman. "This sector requires a unique and highly specialized skillset that will complement our current intellectual property capabilities in trademarks, domains and IP addresses".

Hilco IP Merchant Banking will be managed by CEO Michael Friedman, who joined Hilco this year and specializes in intellectual property finance and investing.

"We will be focused on three critical areas within the intellectual property space, which will include financial and technology advisory services, proprietary intellectual property investing, and a dedicated team of monetization experts to sell and license these valuable assets," Friedman said.

Thirteen senior professionals will join the company from Marquis Technologies, a full-service IP group formed by the former leaders of Rockstar Consortium.

"I am thrilled to welcome such an impressive team of industry leaders to our practice," Friedman said. "Our new organization is literally filled with some of the top technology and patent experts in the world today."
