Peoria North Rotary Club held its 10th Annual Rookie Food Drive this month to benefit Heart of Illinois Harvest.

To celebrate its best drive of the decade, Peoria North Rotary Club held a celebration last week where they pied five members of the club’s leadership, including Rotary District Gov.-elect Doug Huff.

This year’s event was helmed by new member food drive chairs Shaun Newell, from the Center for Prevention of Abuse, and Mary Anderson of the Girl Scouts of Central Illinois.

As a result, the organization collected almost 13,000 food items collected from their members and a total of $3,522 to go towards Heart of Illinois' gas and vehicle maintenance.

Dunlap High School's Interact Club is still collecting cans that will be added to the total. They have surpassed their goals, as well, with an average collection of 3,000 cans per week.
