Illinois Central College will host its fifth annual “Deaf Idol 2017” for its S.I.G.N. Club on April 1 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. in the ICC Performing Arts Center on the East Peoria Campus.
The event will include performances from members of the deaf community performing songs, poetry, stories and more.
The top five contestants will be selected by a panel of judges, while the audience will ultimately pick the winner. Celebrity judge Amber Galloway Gallego, a music interpreter, will be on the panel, along with Juan Bernal, an American Sign Language teacher, and Angela Botz, a community outreach coordinator.
“We are excited to have Amber, as well as Juan and Angela, with us to celebrate our milestone fifth year,” ICC S.I.G.N. Club adviser DiAnn Sances said in a press release. “We feel so fortunate to share this unique opportunity to promote and enrich the deaf community and allow people to experience ASL culture in the diverse backgrounds of the contestants.”
Voice interpreters will be available during the event, and tickets can be purchased from any S.I.G.N. Club member. For more information, email the S.I.G.N. Club at SignClub.email@example.com.
