Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire District recently adopted a new fire safety ordinance.

Trustees Kim Barkemeyer, Phil Bettiker and Jeffrey Hansen passed an ordinance in which they adopted the ICC International Fire Code from 2012, which includes residential fire sprinkler requirements for new homes that are constructed in the area.

"Our fire district has always been a leader in fire prevention and life safety," Fire Chief Ian Kazain said in a press release. "Our board of trustees understands that passing a residential fire sprinkler code is the single most important decision they could make to provide a fire-safe community."
