The city of Wheaton recently unveiled a sign to honor a former resident who died while serving in the Army.
The sign honoring Spc. Samuel T. Watts was placed at Karlskoga Avenue and Hale Street.
A graduate of Wheaton North High School, Watts was killed while serving in Afghanistan, according to an announcement.
The street sign program that organized Watts' memorial was established in September. The city honors Wheaton residents who have died but made sacrifices for their city, the state of Illinois or the United States, the announcement said.
