TUCSON — The Arizona Builders Alliance (ABA) has partnered with the Literacy Connects campus for its volunteer day project and bringing over 200 volunteers and donating over $200,000 worth of renovations to the campus.
The ABA volunteer project, which helps to build and revitalize important spaces in the community each year, involved ABA members and their families helping to renovate the Literacy Connects campus.
The project will help Literacy Connects house their Stories that Soar! Program as well as their Youth Arts Center. The Arts Center will provide after school activities in the Amphi neighborhood.
“The work being done by the ABA has made major improvements that we never would have been able to afford," Literacy Connects executive director Betty Stauffer said in a press release. "They have taken the final phase of our building renovation work to an ‘oh my gosh we’re almost there’ level. We can’t begin to thank the many companies that have given their time and supplies to this work.”
Over the past two years, Literacy Connects has distributed 97,374 books to those in need and has helped to improve the literacy and life skills of over 46,447 learners. Through Literacy Connects programs, local kindergarten through 6th grade students have been encouraged to write over 13,000 stories.
