The City of Sierra Vista has partnered with Premier Alliances Inc. to secure a $50,000 grant from the Legacy Foundation of Southeast Arizona to install accessible playground equipment at Veterans Memorial Park for children with mobility challenges. 

The project will include adding a six-seat swing set, merry-go-round, spinning seat and individual wheelchair swing, according to the city. The project will also include connecting the playground to existing pathways with rubberized surfaces to support wheelchair access and safety.

“We’re thrilled to be able to improve access at one of our most popular playgrounds and offer new equipment that all local children can enjoy,” Laura Wilson, the city’s director of Leisure and Library Services, said in a press release. “Partnerships like this one are a great way to overcome fiscal constraints and leverage local resources to improve quality of life in our community.”

According to the city, additional funds for the project are in-kind donations from Premier Alliances with the city providing site preparation, equipment storage and staff review of the installation. 

“This partnership, resulting in one of the most inclusive playgrounds in both Sierra Vista and Cochise County, exemplifies Premier Alliances’ commitment to improving the lives of people with disabilities,” Premier Alliances CEO John Charley said in a statement. 

Installation of the equipment is scheduled to take place in late-winter, according to the city.
