The City of Maricopa will host its annual Senior Info/Expo this month with this year's theme of "Resources: On Course" and featuring workshops, exhibitors and giveaways.
Now in its third year, the annual senior event focuses on giving seniors and caretakers an opportunity to get important information on health, wellness, safety and legal issues as well as putting them in contact with businesses that provide valuable senior resources.
“The goal of the Senior Info/Expo is to create and increase public awareness of resources, services and initiatives for those 60 plus or those caring for aging parents,” Maricopa's Age-Friendly Coordinator Arnold Jackson said in a press release.
The event is part of the City of Maricopa's "Age-Friendly" plan, which is a statewide initiative focused on helping cities connect with the aging population as well as caretakers by providing information, resources and services. The City of Maricopa is one of nine pilot sites in the state and the only city in Pinal County to implement the initiative.
By 2020, the U.S. Census estimates those over 60 will account for over 20 percent of the city's population.
The free event will take place Jan. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Maricopa City Hall. Visit maricopa-az.gov to register for the event or for additional information.
