Illinois Central College hosts information sessions for highway construction program
Illinois Central College (ICC) will host informational sessions for students interested in the school's Highway Construction Careers Training Program (HCCTP), a program designed to increase the number of minorities, women and disadvantaged individuals working in construction trades.
Information session dates include Jan. 23 at 9 a.m. at ICC Peoria Campus; Jan. 24 at 9 a.m. at Goodwill Industries on East War Memorial Drive; Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. at Tri-County Peoria Urban League on South MacArthur Highway; Jan. 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the ICC North Campus on North University Street; and Jan. 26 at 9 a.m. at the ICC North Campus.
The HCCTP program which will run from Feb. 26 through May 18, is a grant-funded, Illinois Department of Transportation sponsored project. The 12-week program includes free training to prepare participants for a successful building trade application process. Classes include building on math skills, job readiness and technical skills. Participants also receive a 10-hour Occupational Health & Safety Administration certification, forklift and aerial lift certification, and first aid/CPR certification.
Skills include training for work as laborers, cement masons, operating engineers, electricians, ironworkers, sheet metal workers, carpenters, bricklayers and other union trades.
