Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement.
Join us at one of Elgin's hidden gems, Hawthorne Hill Nature Center to hear the colorful history of this city park. Carl Missele, neighbor and steward of this beautiful piece of property, will be sharing what the site was like back in 1938 when it opened as a Girl Scout camp and how it evolved through the years to become one of the city's most unique parks.
At the end of the presentation HHNC naturalist Maura Neuffer, will be conducting a walking tour of the park for any interested.
This free event is sponsored by the Elgin Parks and Recreation Foundation and is presented in conjunction with the Elgin History Museum. For more details call 847-931-6127.
