Cost of college went up for all students at Illinois Central College

In-state tuition and fees rose 1.7 percent for 2017-18 at Illinois Central College, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

In-state tuition and fees rose 1.7 percent for 2017-18 at Illinois Central College, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

Illinois residents paid $9,150 to attend the two-year public institution this year $150 more than the $9,000 charged for 2016-17.

Non-residents paid 18 percent more than residents this year, or $10,800. Their price tag grew 2.9 percent from $10,500 in 2016-17.

About 97 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Illinois residents. About 2 percent are residents of other states and 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 66 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 624 students received grants or scholarships totaling $3.13 million and 207 students took out student loans totaling more than $872,077.

Including all undergraduates, 3,729 students used grants or scholarships totaling $14.01 million. Another 1,105 took out $4.63 million in federal student loans.
