Cost of college went down for all students at Richland Community College


In-state tuition and fees fell 6.5 percent for 2017-18 at Richland Community College, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

Illinois residents paid $6,000 to attend the two-year public institution this year $420 less than the $6,420 charged for 2016-17.

Non-residents paid 140.5 percent more than residents this year, or $14,430. Their price tag was reduced 1.4 percent from $14,640 in 2016-17.

About 99 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Illinois residents. And about 1 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 87 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 224 students received grants or scholarships totaling $958,560 and 32 students took out student loans totaling more than $141,668.

Including all undergraduates, 1,593 students used grants or scholarships totaling $5.59 million. Another 339 took out $1.22 million in federal student loans.
