Chicago's AbelsonTaylor garners four Manny Awards nominations

A Chicago-based health-and-wellness advertising agency is nominated for four prestigious industry awards.

AbelsonTaylor, founded in 1981 in Chicago, is a finalist in four categories for the 30th annual Manny Awards. According to PharmaLive.com, the award nominations came from Med Ad News, a business and marketing publication specializing in the pharmaceutical field. The publication will honor winners at the Manny Awards ceremony next month in New York.

Each award category has three finalists. AbelsonTaylor made the cut for the Vision Award and in three campaign-specific categories. The MACI/It’s Your Move campaign is a finalist for Best Consumer Campaign (Web); Unfriend Chronic Migraine is up for Best Interactive Patient Campaign; and Feel the Data is nominated for Best Self-Promotion Campaign.

In addition, AbelsonTaylor nominated Amy Williams, the associate marketing director for Avanos, as Marketer on the Rise.

After online voting produced a list of finalists, Med Ad News convened what it calls a “MedAdvocate” jury on March 20, a roundtable discussion of selections from more than 200 voters representing a broad spectrum of health care communication agencies. The “MedAdvocates” were assigned specific campaigns to review and then started the conversation with jurors. Those teams scored the campaigns on a points system that is tabulated with online popular votes to determine the winners.

According to AbelsonTaylor, the company has won five different Most Admired Agency Manny awards, and a record 11 Most Creative Agency honors. In 2017 the company’s Power of One effort won the Manny for Best Philanthropic Campaign. The promotion involved collecting tabs from aluminum cans to raise money to help families stay at Ronald McDonald House facilities, and resulted in an increase in collections of more than 600 percent.

The Manny Awards ceremony will be Thursday, April 18, at New York’s Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers. Attendance is expected to include more than 600 industry professionals. 

As part of the ceremony, Med Ad News will honor its 2019 Industry Persons of the Year, Steven Michaelson, the founder and CEO of Calcium, and Judy Capano, a co-founder and managing partner of Calcium.

According to AdAge.com, AbelsonTaylor is the world’s largest independent health-and-wellness advertising agency. Founder Dale Taylor said he has rejected 35 offers to sell the company, which employs roughly 300 people.
