The city of Mesa recently received $300,000 in funding to revitalize downtown Main Street storefronts.
According to KTAR News 92.3 FM, funding for the city’s façade improvement program comes via the $1.5 trillion infrastructure package that was signed by President Joe Biden. The bill includes $9.9 million for projects across Arizona.
"It’s been a very positive project and I’m really excited about the continued growth of the façade improvements along Mesa’s Main Street," Arizona State Rep. Greg Stanton told KTAR News. "The businesses that are in downtown Mesa are really a wonderful eclectic group of businesses that represent the vitality and kind of the soul of the city of Mesa. Lots of wonderful older businesses, some that have been there for more than 100 years, and lots of new businesses including bars and breweries and comedy theatres."
Mesa Mayor John Giles wrote in an April 20 Twitter post that local businesses are "the heart of our downtown."
"Pleased to expand façade improvements thanks in part to $300,000 in federal funding secured by @RepGregStanton. Funds will support small biz owners w/ signage, façade updates and colonnade rehab/removal," he tweeted.
Mesa's façade improvement program provides Community Development Block Grants to small business owners to help pay for storefront improvements.
