Nationwide pet insurance members now have access to a new video consultation feature on Nationwide’s VetHelpline®, providing them with face-to-face conversations with veterinary professionals around the clock. This new addition aims to offer a more comprehensive solution to pet owners, as stated by Mariel Devesa, Nationwide Pet’s Head of Growth, Expansion, and Development, who highlighted, "Our new VetHelpline® merges technology with peace of mind for our consumers in one of the most comprehensive solutions in the market today."

The VetHelpline® service is exclusive to Nationwide pet insurance members, who can utilize the feature by downloading the app. Dr. Jules Benson, Vice President, Pet Health, and Chief Veterinary Officer for Nationwide, emphasized the benefits of the new video consultation feature, stating, "VetHelpline® gives Nationwide members convenience and expertise in the palm of their hand."

The platform offers guidance on various pet health concerns, ranging from general queries to identifying urgent care needs, with the understanding that early detection plays a vital role in preventing minor issues from escalating. Dr. Benson further emphasized the significance of the service by noting, "For questions as diverse as, ‘Do I need to go to the emergency room?’ to ‘How do I assess my pet's quality of life?’, this service is an incredible resource."

The VetHelpline® staff possesses expertise in a wide range of pet health issues, including but not limited to poisoning, parasites, and infectious diseases. To utilize the service effectively, Nationwide members are advised to have specific information ready, including their pet insurance policy number, primary concern, pet's symptoms and duration, existing health problems, current medications, and packaging label if a potentially poisonous substance was ingested.

While the VetHelpline® offers valuable support and guidance, Nationwide stresses that it is not a replacement for consulting with a primary care veterinarian. Pet parents are encouraged to reach out to their veterinarian when necessary and safe to do so, ensuring the well-being of their furry companions.
